The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Chief Planner/Director of Planning, this role is to lead the Strategic Policy Planning Section of the Planning Department for the formation and interpretation of land use policies in the Town’s Official Plan, while building and maintaining strong and prosperous working relationships with stakeholders such as the province and the Region of Peel. This role is directly responsible for the management of policy team members and the oversight of multiple consultants providing support on various project; the recruitment, development and evaluation of Strategic Policy Planning staff. As the Manager, Strategic Planning, you will perform the following duties, including but not limited to:

  • Guide the Town’s overall growth strategy and contribute to the economic, social, cultural and environmental wellbeing of the community
  • Develop and maintain Town’s Official Plan, including the completion of the Town’s Official Plan Review
  • Provide planning recommendations and advice to the Chief Planner/Director of Planning, Council, and the public on a wide variety of planning matters
  • Oversee the implementation of major heritage policy and conservation projects
  • Guide and advise staff on project management matters, priorities, and the approach to be taken on policy planning initiatives
  • Assess departmental staffing needs, review and recommend organizational structure changes, approve hiring and/or staffing recommendations/decisions
  • Oversee the preparation of the annual operating and capital budgets for Strategic Policy Planning

COVID-19: In consideration of the current pandemic and Public Health orders, the Town of Caledon is providing limited in-person services as Town Hall is open to the public by appointment only. The successful candidate for Manager, Strategic Policy Planningwill be required to work a flexible schedule, including in the office, remotely and after hours (as required).

The Ideal Candidate

We are seeking an enthusiastic professional with a post-secondary degree in Planning or a closely related field. A Master’s degree is considered an asset. Membership in the Ontario Professional Planners Institute and Canadian Institute of Planners is required. Our ideal candidate has a minimum seven (7) years in land use planning with increasing responsibilities, with three (3) years of supervisory experience; municipal experience is an asset.

The ideal candidate thorough knowledge of the Ontario Heritage Act, Ontario Planning Act, Growth Plan, Niagara Escarpment Plan, Greenbelt Plan & Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation Plan, and experience at the Ontario Boards and/or Tribunals and will have demonstrated the ability to manage change and direct the establishment of innovative planning policy procedures. We are seeking an individual with superior interpersonal skills, a demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders, and excellent leadership skills.

This position offers a salary range of $110,703.42- $138,005.63 plus a competitive benefit package.

Satisfactory passing of a criminal record check, and proof of qualifications will be required of any successful candidate(s) for this position.
