Reporting directly to the Manager, Planning Services, this role is responsible for providing technical planning and administrative support to the Division and thorough information on planning related matters to the public on behalf of the Department. As the Planning Technician, you will perform the following duties, including but not limited to:
- Respond to all public inquiries (phone, e-mail and counter) and provide information related to general planning, applications, Official plan, zoning, and related matters.
- Accept development applications and other planning documents and submissions.
- Assist in preparing reports for various planning applications, such as Committee of Adjustment and Niagara Escarpment applications
- Process minor Site Plan applications
- Maintain an informative and comprehensive service counter that is proactive in providing the public with up to date planning information
- Coordinate all preliminary meetings and pre-consultation meetings for the Development Application Review Team (DART). Assist with agenda preparation, updating protocol, coordinating comments, etc.
COVID-19: In consideration of the current pandemic and Public Health orders, the Town of Caledon is providing limited in-person services as Town Hall is open to the public by appointment only. The successful candidate for Planning Technician will be required to work a flexible schedule, including in the office, remotely and after hours (as required).
The Ideal Candidate
We are seeking an enthusiastic professional with a post-secondary diploma in land use planning or a closely related field. Our ideal candidate has a minimum 1 year of planning or development related experience, with a demonstrated working knowledge of the Planning Act and related legislation, zoning and municipal planning/development processes.
The ideal candidate will be proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and knowledge of AMANDA is aN asset. We are seeking an individual with superior organizational skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively independently and within a team setting.
This position offers a salary range of $58,178.20 - $69,052.24 plus a competitive benefit package.
Satisfactory passing of a criminal background check, and proof of qualifications will be required of any successful candidate(s) for this position.
