The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Superintendent, Road Operations, this position is responsible for the scheduling, assigning, coordinating and supervision of unionized staff to complete various road, drainage and parks maintenance activities while ensuring compliance to all legislation, Town By-Laws and Policies including adapting to continually changing priorities and emergency situations.  Overall, this position plays an integral role in investigating, scheduling and responding directly to residential and business customers to resolve issues and concerns.  Additionally, this position provides technical advice for the safe operation of all equipment to efficiently and effectively complete any or all road and drainage maintenance activities. Also, this position provides technical advice for various operations maintenance contracts and collaborates with the Coordinator, Operations to administer and implement activities related to road occupancy and new entrances. As the Supervisor, Roads, you will perform duties including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Utilizing technology and road condition reports from road patrols to assess maintenance activities required and delegate to staff
  • Evaluating customer service requests created in CityWide, develop work order activities for daily staff assignment, and follow up and close work orders once completed


The Ideal Candidate

We are seeking an enthusiastic professional with a post-secondary diploma as a Civil Engineering Technician or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience. The ideal candidate will possess the Certified Road Supervisor (CRS) designation with Association of Ontario Road Supervisors. Designation as a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) or Applied Science Technologist (A.Sc.T.) designation with the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists is considered a strong asset. Our ideal candidate has a minimum three (3) years of experience in a Public Works, Parks or Operations Supervisory role within a unionized environment including Contract Administration.

The ideal candidate will have knowledge of construction and maintenance of roads, storm sewers, ditches and parks. We are seeking an individual with the ability to resolve conflicts and handle staff performance, demonstrate the ability to assess and evaluate existing infrastructure, and possess knowledge pertaining to maintaining streetlights, line striping, and roadside safety devices and parks field.

The successful candidate for Supervisor, Roads (Afternoon Shift) must be able to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required. This person will be required to work the afternoon/evening shift with hours of work being 3:30 pm – 12:00 am and may be subject to change and flexibility.

This position offers a salary range of $87,909.52 - $104,209.30 plus a competitive benefit package.

Satisfactory passing of a criminal record check, and proof of qualifications will be required of any successful candidate(s) for this position.
