The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Programmer, Specialty Programs, the Inclusion Facilitator will support participants with physical, cognitive and/or developmental disabilities. They will also ensure a welcoming environment for inclusive and adapted programs, while working in accordance with the Town of Caledon guidelines, practices and procedures for Community Programs and Customer Service standards. As the Inclusion Facilitator, you will perform the following duties, including but not limited to:

  • Provide one to one support/assistance for persons with special needs/disability, who need assistance integrating into recreation programs or participating in adapted programs.
  • Provide support to participants to foster involvement/engagement in recreation programs and assist participants with daily needs, using  verbal prompting for tasks such as like toileting, feeding, dressing/changing and behaviour modifications.
  • Be responsible for the well-being of assigned participant(s); always ensure knowledge of participants whereabouts.
  • Create a welcoming environment for all participants and their support networks.
  • Prepare facilities, teaching material, lesson plans and material for participants as required.
  • Provide program instruction/leadership at the appropriate skill level of participants. Prepare and implement program content based on program objectives, age, and ability of the participant(s).
  • Communicate with Coordinator/Programmer of Specialty Programs and parents/guardians to discuss program and behavioural concerns.  Assist in the development of an action plan to ensure concerns are addressed in a timely manner.
  • Perform administrative tasks (i.e., attendance, preparation, Injury and Incident Reports etc.) and report to supervisory staff in a timely manner.
  • Support other staff in all efforts to integrate participants and modify program plans, when necessary, based on the needs of individual participants in your care in accordance with requests and guidelines outlined in the participant profile

Candidates for these positions will have the following training and skills:

  • Minimum 1- 3 years related experience in a program or support role
  • Current Standard First Aid with CPR – C
  • HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development and/or Behaviour Management Systems Training, or equivalent (asset)
  • Experience working with individuals with special needs/disability and/or demonstrates interest in working with individuals with a special need/disability.

Satisfactory passing of a vulnerable sector check, and proof of qualifications will be required of any successful candidate(s) for this position.
