The Opportunity:

Our Parks & Recreation Team has various General Programs Positions available within our facilities:

  • Learn To Skate Instructors
  • Public Skate Guards
  • Snoezelen Facilitator
  • General Program Instructors
  • Drop-in Program Attendant

Working with our General Programs staff, these staff members provide quality customer service to program participants through instruction, programming and/or facility support.

 

Our Learn To Skate Instructors:

  • Prepare and implement program content based on program objectives outlined by the Town
  • Prepare course facilities, teaching material and equipment. Prepare program outlines, lesson plans and material for participants as required
  • Provide program instruction/leadership at the appropriate skill level of participants. Start and end program on time.
  • Perform administrative tasks (i.e. attendance, preparation, Injury and Incident Reports etc.)
  • Attend team meetings and training sessions
  • Ensure confidentiality of all information pertaining to  staff, clients and facility operations
  • Assist in providing a clean, healthy , safe environment for the program and ensure equipment is stored as required
  • Maintain composure in escalated situations as they arise.  Immediately report incidents to the Recreation Coordinator or designate

     Candidates for these positions will have the following training and skills:

  • Current Standard First Aid with CPR- C
  • 2 years' experience in hockey, figure skating, power skating etc. or a demonstrated ability to skate at an advanced level
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of all information pertaining to  staff, clients and facility operations

 

Our Public Skate Guards:

  • Supervise program participants and ensure their safety
  • Perform administrative tasks (i.e. attendance, preparation, Injury and Incident Reports etc.)
  • Attend team meetings and training sessions
  • Ensure confidentiality of all information pertaining to  staff, clients and facility operations
  • Assist in providing a clean, healthy , safe environment for the program and ensure equipment is stored as required
  • Maintain composure in escalated situations as they arise.  Immediately report incidents to the Recreation Coordinator or designate

     Candidates for these positions will have the following training and skills:

  • Current Standard First Aid with CPR- C

Our Snoezelen Facilitators:

  • Supervise program participants and operate Snoelezen equipment their use
  • Perform administrative tasks (i.e. attendance, preparation, Injury and Incident Reports etc.)
  • Attend team meetings and training sessions
  • Ensure confidentiality of all information pertaining to  staff, clients and facility operations
  • Assist in providing a clean, healthy , safe environment for the program and ensure equipment is stored as required
  • Maintain composure in escalated situations as they arise.  Immediately report incidents to the Recreation Coordinator or designate

     Candidates for these positions will have the following training and skills:

  • Current Standard First Aid with CPR- C
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Snoezelen philosophy. Experience working with individuals with special needs would be an asset.
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of all information pertaining to  staff, clients and facility operations

 

Our General Program Instructors:

  • Perform administrative tasks (i.e. attendance, preparation, Injury and Incident Reports etc.)

  • Ensure confidentiality of all information pertaining to  staff, clients and facility operations
  • Assist in providing a clean, healthy , safe environment for the program and ensure equipment is stored as required
  • Maintain composure in escalated situations as they arise.  Immediately report incidents to the Recreation Coordinator or designate

     Candidates for these positions will have the following training and skills:

  • Current Standard First Aid with CPR- C
  • Minimum 1 year experience in program area
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate training/instruction. Experience working with children, youth, adults and adults 60+ would be an asset
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

 

Our Drop-In Program Attendants:

  • Monitor drop-in participants and ensure their safety
  • Open and close facility (not all locations)
  • Perform administrative tasks (i.e. attendance, preparation, Injury and Incident Reports etc.)
  • Attend team meetings and training sessions
  • Ensure confidentiality of all information pertaining to  staff, clients and facility operations
  • Assist in providing a clean, healthy , safe environment for the program and ensure equipment is stored as required
  • Maintain composure in escalated situations as they arise.  Immediately report incidents to the Recreation Coordinator or designate

     Candidates for these positions will have the following training and skills:

  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

 

Note: All Staff working with the Parks & Recreation Department are required to satisfactorily pass a vulnerable sector check and complete Standard First Aid with CPR-C (if not already certified).
