Through demonstration of strong organizational skills, and leadership skills, the Senior Building Inspector will be responsible for assisting the Supervisor, Building Inspections/Deputy CBO and providing building and mechanical inspections of buildings and structures, to ensure that all construction is carried out in accordance with the requirements of the Building Code Act (BCA), the Ontario Building Code (OBC), Town By-laws and Applicable Law. This individual will assist the Supervisor, in developing policies and procedures, by-laws and alternative service delivery opportunities and reviews, and recommend improvements to existing practices and procedures. Additionally, the incumbent will also assist the Supervisor, Building Inspections/Deputy CBO in technical training and development. The Senior Building Inspector will inspect buildings and structures in accordance with approved plans and documents for compliance with the BCA, OBC, Town By-laws and Town policies and procedures.
Reporting directly to the Supervisor, Building Inspections/Deputy CBO, you will lead timely issue-resolution initiatives arising from any complaints and/or inquiries and prepare closing reports to the Supervisor and Manager. You will issue orders that directly involve Inspectors including Orders to Comply, Orders not to Cover and Orders with respect to Unsafe Buildings. You will be responsible for staying current on changes to legislation and relevant Case Law to maintain best practices and uniform interpretation. You will communicate as required with other divisions, departments and external agencies. Carry out duties in a manner consistent with established policies and procedures and assist in managing action concerning corrections to process delays and inefficiencies.
The Ideal Candidate
We are seeking a proactive professional with a post-secondary degree/diploma in Architectural or Engineering Technology, or closely related field. Our ideal candidate has 5 years of related experience, preferably in a municipal regulatory environment, conducting inspections. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills. We are seeking an individual with superior knowledge of sound construction practices, the ability to move about buildings and on construction sites, be able to lift up to 25lbs and have excellent working knowledge of the BCA, OBC and other relevant legislation. CBCO and HRAI certification are an asset, and will be required as part of the development plan for this role.
This position offers a salary range of $71,921.97 - $93,077.66 plus a competitive benefit package.
