The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Deputy Treasurer, this role is responsible for providing detailed analysis, review, maintain and support the general ledger accounts for all Capital, Development Charges, Securities, Development Forecasts, Reserves and Reserve Funds. You will provide technical financial advice and support to various Departments including, but not limited to, interpretation of development charge by-laws, detailed review and analysis of Operating and Capital Budgets. You will be responsible for supporting the long term financial sustainability and viability as well as financial integrity for the Town. As the Senior Financial Analyst, you will perform the following duties, including but not limited to:

  • Providing financial planning support for such as setting budget targets, deliver training as well as providing assistance to Departments allowing them to successfully deliver a robust and transparent budget to Council, coordination of the formal Budget Document, review of proposed changes in service level including providing input and financial analysis
  • Development and review of Financial Implication for Council reports, sharing financial knowledge and guidance to resolve any issues, providing timely input and feedback, participate in studies or long-term planning related work.
  • TCA and year end requirements: involved with developing and then communicating year end requirements, schedule, and deliver any training to Departments, accounts payable and receivable accrual analysis to ensure financially appropriate and complete, provide accurate and timely year end entries, complete working papers for audit purposes including account reconciliations, liaise with external auditors by providing any additional information required and responding to any inquiries, prepare information for financial statements,  complete Financial Information Return (FIR) schedules promptly to meet filing deadline
  • Continuous improvement of processes, updating and creating policies and procedures related to financial management such as budget development or financial controls, day to day financial work including accounting entries and accruals, project management time recovery for capital projects, various account reconciliations, training, and other duties as assigned.
  • Budget and financial software administrator, responsible for the design and maintenance of various financial reports.
  • Design and maintain various financial reports using Financial FMW (Financial Manager’s Workbench)
  • Working knowledge of FMW, Great Plains Microsoft Dynamics including proficiency in smart list reports, set up, troubleshooting, and security


The Ideal Candidate

We are seeking a knowledgeable professional with a post-secondary degree in Accounting, Economics or similar or a closely related field. Our ideal candidate has 3-5 years’ of finance experience and a chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation is required.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated municipal finance experience. We are seeking an individual with superior verbal and written communication skills, a demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team, and excellent organizational skills.

The successful candidate for Senior Financial Analyst will be required to work a flexible schedule, including in the office, remotely and after hours (as required).

This position offers a salary range of $83,310.20 – $102,097.99 plus a competitive benefit package.

Satisfactory passing of a criminal record check, and proof of qualifications will be required of any successful candidate(s) for this position.
