The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Manager, Strategic Policy Planning, this role is responsible for independently managing planning policy projects, undertaking research and analysis, and preparing/presenting reports on behalf of the Division. As the Community Planner, Policy, you will perform the following duties, including but not limited to:

  • Contribute to the completion of a new, modern, innovative Official Plan for the Town
  • Conduct independent data collection, research and analysis on a range of planning issues related to the Town’s Official Plan to ensure it conforms with the Planning Act, the Provincial Policy Statement, applicable provincial plans, and the Peel Region Official Plan
  • Prepare and present reports with recommendations to Council related to both planning policy and development matters
  • Provide guidance and information to Town staff, Council, developers and citizens regarding Caledon’s planning process, Official Plan policies and relevant regulations
  • Work as staff representative for policy related matters at Regional and Municipal meetings (i.e. Development Application Review Committee, etc.)


The Ideal Candidate

We are seeking a planning professional with a post-secondary degree in Planning, Urban Studies or a related field. Our ideal candidate has a minimum three (3) years’ experience in land use planning or policy planning. Experience in environmental planning would be an asset. In addition, membership in the Ontario Professional Planners Institute and/or Canadian Institute of Planners would be an asset.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated thorough knowledge of the Ontario Planning Act, Growth Plan, Greenbelt Plan & Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation Plan, and experience at the Ontario Boards and/or Tribunals. We are seeking an individual with Project Management experience with excellent organizational skills to guide special projects and direct research, ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders including the ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing, and excellent interpersonal skills, public facilitation and conflict resolution skills.

The successful candidate for Community Planner, Policy will be required to work a flexible schedule, including in the office, remotely and after hours (as required).

This position offers a salary range of $91,991.43 - $112,735.95 plus a competitive benefit package.

Satisfactory passing of a criminal record check and proof of qualifications will be required of any successful candidate(s) for this position.
