Reporting directly to the Recreation Coordinator this role is responsible for ensuring camp participants have a positive experience and for working in accordance with the Town of Caledon guidelines, practices and procedures on Recreational Programs and Customer Service Standards. 



Functional Responsibilities:

  • Assist with training, supervision and evaluation of camp staff
  • Organize and assist staff in running a fun and effective camp program to provide appropriate, challenging and fun camp activities for participants of all ages and abilities
  • Attend regular meetings with Recreation staff and conduct weekly meetings with camp staff
  • Coordinate staff schedules, including Extended Day Camp (EDC) and fill in for temporary staff shortages and breaks
  • Ensure camp ratios are met at all times, including swims, trips and Extended Day Camp (EDC)
  • Supervise and be accountable for camp participants; ensure knowledge of participants’ location at all times and address any behavioural issues
  • Coach and provide team leadership to Camp Counselors, Inclusion Counselors, CITs and LITs in the implementation and delivery of the camp program
  • Perform daily administrative tasks including camp sign –in/out, attendance, camp preparation etc. and complete Injury and Incident Reports as needed
  • Complete mid-term and final Performance Appraisals
  • Exhibit positive and professional behaviours with all participants, parents and co-workers. Respond to all inquiries and feedback from parents in a positive and professional manner
  • Submit final report to the Recreation Coordinator/Programmer with recommendations
  • Comply with all Town of Caledon policies and procedures
  • Participate and help lead all staff training and meetings
  • Be responsible to work and ensure all staff supervised work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, the Town of Caledon Occupational Health, Safety and Workplace Violence Policy and Procedures, as well as established industry guidelines
  • Perform additional duties and undertake special projects as assigned


Additional duties for Inclusion Coordinator  

  • Liaise with community agencies and partners supported by the Recreation Coordinator/Programmer and the Recreation Supervisor of Programs.
  • Assisting with tasks of personal care including; changing, toileting and feeding as required (always in the presence of another Town of Caledon staff member)
  • Develop and lead Inclusion Camp program; oversee delivery of program plans by staff including appropriate use of camp space and equipment based on the needs of the participants
  • Work directly with families to provide specific program plans and detailed participant profiles to meet the inclusion requirements of participants
  • Review participant profiles with staff to ensure a strong, confident understanding of the participants needs and behaviours and assist with problem solving
  • Ensure participant profiles are updated each week based on the participants log book and communication from the counselor
  • Monitor Camp registrations and ensure families receive appropriate funding
  • Assist camp staff with any behaviour challenges or concerns and ensure proper documentation is completed.



  • Current certification in Standard First Aid with CPR level C
  • Certification in HIGH FIVE ® Principles of Healthy Child Development is an asset
  • Demonstrated customer service excellence that reflects Caledon’s quality standards: accurate, courteous, responsive and easy to navigate
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to give obtain and/or exchange routine information
  • Organizational skills with considerable attention to detail to avoid errors and ability to meet deadlines
  • Superior interpersonal skills including the ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions involving routine tasks, within established procedures
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise significant discretion and sensitivity involving regular access to confidential data
  • Satisfactory passing of a criminal record check or vulnerable sector check
  • Valid driver’s license in good standing and daily access to a reliable vehicle
  • Experience working in a camp environment or with children would be an asset but not necessary; must work well with children and maintain professional relationships with parents/guardians
  • Completion of a Leader in Training and/or Counselor in Training course is an asset


Additional Qualification for Inclusion Coordinator

  • Behaviour Management Systems Training
  • Experience working in a camp environment
  • Specialized training or direct work experience with children with a disability/special need.



  • Physical activity involves active movement (ex. lifting, pulling, pushing; lifting up to 50lbs)
  • Regular travel to various town sites and external meetings
  • Regular exposure to stressful situations. May be exposed to some conflict and emotionally charged situations
  • Must be able to work after hours or when deemed necessary to meet deadlines and deal with urgent situations
  • General environment consists of various active camp locations, including indoor  and outdoor spaces
  • Must be able to accompany participants in the pool
  • Must be prepared to travel on a bus with participants and supervise off-site for trips 

Additional Conditions for Inclusion Coordinator:

  • Must be prepared to work with participants with varying special needs, behaviours and abilities
  • Must be prepared to work in a physical active environment that includes but not limited to running, extensive walking, pushing a wheelchair or stroller, lifting participants, transferring participants and weight bearing task. ·  


Satisfactory passing of a vulnerable sector check, and proof of qualifications will be required of any successful candidate(s) for this position.
