The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Supervisor, Inspections/Deputy Chief Building Official, this role is responsible for conducting site investigations and inspections of large and complex buildings, structures, and related systems. As the Senior Building Inspector, you will perform the following duties, including but not limited to:

  • Conduct inspections of buildings, structures, related building systems, private sewage systems, on-site construction and conditions, as assigned, for Part 9 and/or Part 3 buildings, for compliance with the BCA, OBC, Town By-laws and Town policies and procedures, ensuring materials and methods of construction meet approved standards and practices, while adhering to mandated timeframes for conducting inspections, in accordance with the BCA and OBC. Instruct owners, contractors, designers, architects, and engineers of deficiencies and required changes
  • Communicate with applicants and design professionals with respect to identified OBC deficiencies.
  • Mentor/coach Building Inspectors and provide technical knowledge assistance and knowledge transfer.
  • Research new and existing construction systems, techniques and products, and assesses them for conformity to existing standards and regulations

 

The Ideal Candidate

We are seeking an enthusiastic professional with a post-secondary degree/diploma or certificate in Architectural or Civil Engineering. Our ideal candidate has a minimum of three (3) years’ related experience in the construction industry and/or municipal government directly engaged in the building permit process. A Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing qualifications in General Legal, On-Site Sewage, Complex Buildings, and Building Structural certifications are required.

The successful candidate has experience reading and interpreting plans, specifications and data sheets pertaining to architectural and structural design for compliance with the Ontario Building Code and other applicable standards.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated knowledge of sound construction practices and design. We are seeking an individual with superior verbal and written communication skills, a demonstrated ability to communicate with clients and members of the public tactfully and convincingly, and excellent organizational skills.

The successful candidate for Senior Building Inspector will be required to work on-site.

This position offers a salary range of $83,310.20 - $102,097.99 plus a competitive benefit package.

Satisfactory passing of a criminal record check and proof of qualifications will be required of any successful candidate(s) for this position.
